New Arrivals!

Nottingham Forest leave it late as they bring in two players just a day or so before the transfer window shuts.

David Prutton comes back to the City Ground to help turn around our stuttering season, arriving on loan until the seasons end, with the possibility of him staying on if we go up. He had the choice of either coming back home or going to either Leeds or Hull but he said himself that the esteem in which he holds the club made certain he’d rejoin us.

I’m looking forward to his return, he’ll provide the midfield service that players like Tyson are crying out for!

The other new signing is Luke Chambers, a central defender from Northampton. The lad is only 21, but is thought highly of by Northampton’s fans and obviously his former manager. It seems he’s arrived to replace the outgoing Cullip, who seems to be heading to QPR. This deal came just a few hours after the Prutton loan deal was announced, and certainly brightened up this Forest fans face after the Chelsea shocker last weekend!

The only thing is about young Luke is he claims to be happy joining us, but looks like he’d rather be somewhere else in the photo from the official website…

Cheer up Luke! ;) :D

Chelsea 3-0 Nottingham Forest.

Forest weren’t at the races today, even Wycombe and Macclesfield put up more of a fight. Forest didn’t turn up until the end of the first half. By then we were already 2-0 down and facing the possibility of a rout.

Chelsea scored another before the break and I was bracing myself for the Chelsea players to go goal crazy in the second half but thankfully they put their foot of the gas, allowing Forest to actually get some possession.

The Chelsea players seemed content enough with 3-0, although if Shevchenko had not been misfiring he might have scored a few more. As the game drew to a close, the inevitable exchange of tops happened – with Agogo and Essien predictably swapping tops.

The Forest fans were magnificent, a lot more audible than the Chelsea lot were. Even when we were 3-0 down they never stopped enjoying themselves. They’d come prepared too, with a lot of inflatable European cups and plenty of banners – especially this effort below which made the back page of the Evening Post. Made by current BBC favourites Johnny and Alan from LTLF.

Now we’ve got this game out of the way, we can get back to the business of escaping this league. The cup game was a fun diversion but to be honest i’m more interested in winning the championship and at least seeing the Reds bring in some players!

My new toys…

I’ve had the Nokia N93 and the Digihome Freeview box for a few days now so I’ll give my thoughts on ‘em.

I’ve already mentioned the Freeview box on my last post, so onto the channels. The main draw with Freeview is channels such as BBC 3, ITV2, E4 and Sky Sports News (at least for me it is). For that I can’t complain, it picks up all those channels perfectly.

But then you get channels such as bidup.tv, ITV Play and the teletext channels. I’m sure there could be more interesting channels on Freeview, but then you gets what you pays for!

The box sits itself above my TV, does the job without any fuss. It doesn’t have a card slot to be able to pick up topup TV, but seeing what channels are on offer there, that’s no bad thing.

Onto the N93. It’s a beast, a big black beast. The phone is chunky but not as big as I first thought. It’s a phone for business types, but combined with a fancy camera, camcorder and MP3 player is also aimed at the gadget freaks (i.e me).

It’s got three different ‘modes’. The normal open mode, for calls and suchlike…

The ‘laptop’ mode, for viewing pictures and surfing the web (oh yes! It has wi-fi too) and playing games.

Finally, there is the camera mode…

The mode that draws the most attention whenever I get the phone out. The camcorder on this phone is by far and away the best one I’ve ever seen on a mobile. The camera is good too, but the difference between my K750i 2MP camera and the N93 3.2MP is not as large as I’d have hoped for.

It’s a good phone, on an excellent contract (250 Text + 200 Mins, 12 Month Vodafone) and has certainly got the attention of most of my workmates, as it makes their phones look inferior. ;)

Away from tech, the big day is fast approaching. The day when Forest take on Chelsea and the divide between the two becomes painfully apparent. But we shouldn’t rest on modern shitness, this is the cup – anything can happen!!

Digitized

I’ve made the step!

The whole country is to go Digital, the switch to happen within the next six years. But I’ve decided I couldn’t wait and have bought a Digibox to pick up Freeview!!

I was convinced that I couldn’t receive Freeview, as where I am in Radcliffe is in a dip, as is a lot of Nottingham, and wasn’t expecting much from the £20 DigiHome box I bought. I plugged it in tonight and was pleasantly surprised to find that our old aerial managed to pick up all the available channels, albeit some with a 50% signal.

The only problem I have is with the TV, rather than the box. The television is a bit old and as such the scart connection is a bit dodgy. It takes time and effort to get it in correctly and make sure that the screen isn’t blue or green. :(

The other possible problem could be the reception in the summer. The picture on the old analogue reception always suffers a bit in the summer. Can’t help think that the digital reception might suffer too.

Aside from all that, I’m chuffed that it’s all working and with it being in my bedroom, I can wake up in the morning and watch Sky Sports News in bed! 8)

I’m also due to receive my new Nokia N93 phone tomorrow (later on today :P ), after Mobile Phones Direct failed to deliver it today. I e-mailed them and they assured me it should arrive tomorrow. Can’t wait!

All possibilities are landing at my feet

Have been checking out possible places to take a few days break later in the year. As I’m still tied down by what I can afford and where, it’ll probably be a break away in the UK somewhere. But not to be outdone by our plain country, i’ve been checking out the possibilities of either 3 days break in Jersey – or a weekend away in Scotland. Both places that I’ve never been before and both of ‘em a short flight away. Can’t book anything until the spring, but with the holiday planned for August, there’s no rush.

I’ve been checking out deals on the Nokia N93, in advance of me buying it, and I’ve noticed the price rapidly drop on one particular website. Mobile Phones Direct offer the N93 for £70 on a year long, £30 p/m contract. The same deal was £117 only a few days ago. With this kind of a price drop, I’ll be buying this phone sooner rather than later.
