InSpired!

Not a lot much has happened this week. Work and a sore throat is about as good as it’s got. ;)

Amazingly, Forest managed to win today, beating Chesterfield 2-1. Not too sure whether we played well or owt, but a win has at least kept us in touch with all the teams around us. I’ve given up listening to Forest this season (I haven’t seen them either). Whenever I’ve tuned in of late i’ve got so frustrated at us being shit that I’ve thrown the radio on the floor in disgust. I’m counting the cost of the countless broken radios i have… ;)

I’ve spent a bit of birthday cash on re-buying something i’ve sorely missed ever since I had to sell it off on ebay to raise cash. The 50mm f1.8 lens I had for my Nikon D50 was the best lens *ever*. While I’ve managed to take some good pictures with the kit lens, it pales in significance with some of the earlier pictures i’d took.

It’ll take a while to arrive, I bought it from China!

A lot to Intake

My brothers band, Down Angel, were playing at the Intake Club in Mansfield on Saturday night. I was there on hand to take pictures and generally take part in the consumption of alcohol. ;)

Unfortunately for Down Angel, two of the members were missing due to unforeseen circumstances. The two remaining members (my brother and bass player Dan) managed to put together an emergency acoustic set which was went down quite well.

Dan had managed to organise both this and a coach from Nottingham picking up all and sundry along the way. As Down Angel’s set ended, everyone seemed to just get more and more drunk.

Halfway through the other acts, I looked for somewhere quiet to sit down and try and rid myself of the headache I was getting. It should be noted that as well as a rock venue, the Intake is also a pub, and I found myself relaxing in the lounge area while a game of Bingo was going on around me. Most bizarre.

After having a few more Jack Daniels, i was back in the club speaking to people i’d never met before and having stickers put on my face (!!). At 12.30 though, it was time to make the short journey back to Nottingham. Now, a coach full of drunk people is never normally a good thing, but this was!!

Not many people have a memory of what happened and what the pictures are of, and i’m no different.

A fantastic, if confusing, night. :D

LCD Killed The CRT Star

I was in Currys down at Castle Marina today, on the lookout for televisions to replace the ageing Goodmans 21-inch I have in my room. Things have changed a great deal since the last time I was on the lookout for a telly. The standard televisions, as they’re called now, are relegated to one small aisle, while the LCD and Plasma models take up a considerable amount of space in the store.

What annoys me is the prices at which these are being sold, because the technology is fairly new, retailers don’t think twice about charging high prices. What they also fail to tell you is that while High Definition is a huge selling point, it’s next to useless unless you fork out more for Sky HD or hundreds for a HD-DVD player. Watching ordinary terrestrial television, or even standard DVD’s, is painful. Stretched, blurry images are what greets you when you turn it on.

Once digital television becomes commonplace within the next 6 years, prices will drop and the televisions will be good value for money, but until then it really isn’t worth the £300+ that retailers are charging.

As for my TV search, I’m just after anything with two scart sockets. The Goodmans TV I have is dated, the scart socket is very temperamental. Watching Freeview is definitely a chore with this TV. It also doesn’t seem to want to work with my Xbox1/DVD player, which I have plugged into the front AV sockets.

I don’t care if it’s Currys own brand, anything else is a step up.

I can’t stand it, I know you planned it!!

I turned 24 the other day, no big party or celebration, kept things relatively quiet. Maybe it’s a sign of getting older?

Proved not to be though, as yesterday I ended up at my brothers house where we drank beer, smoked weed and had a Chinese.  :D

What it is to be young! 8)

Back From The Dead…!

You might remember my annoyance at the death of my iPod back in September…

Well many months have now passed, the K750i phone I’d been using to listen to music on has now been usurped by the Nokia N93, but owing to a dodgy memory card and an even dodgier MP3 player it isn’t really that suitable to play music on.

I’d given up on my iPod last year, but had recently installed the new version of iTunes on my laptop just so I could have an organised music library. The newer iTunes is much improved from the one that came bundled with my iPod when I bought it, and the “Restore” function that appeared when I plugged in the iPod managed to fix all the problems that the previous version couldn’t.

So it’s now working again!

I’m still wary that it could go wrong at any minute, and the battery life issues probably still remain, but it’s good to have a dedicated MP3 player again. :)
