Snap

More ‘roadie’ style goings-on as I accompany the Unused Subs to a gig in Nottingham.

They were playing at the Rose of England pub on Mansfield Road, part of Wayne’s Guitar Shack Showcase - Wayne being the owner of the shop of which the rehearsal room they practice in. It was a good gig. The ’subs’ had only played in front of some mates, so to have a proper gig - as it were - was great experience and something they carried off quite well. Despite a early hitch involving a flying drum stick! :D

The other bands on the bill were of varying quality. Highlight of the evening were a band called Snakeskin - who were brilliant. Influenced by 1980’s rock, they really got the crowd going and got the biggest cheer of the night. The Lowlight probably had to be the only other Punk band of the night (after the Unused Subs) - who were both drunk and stoned, with the singer continuing to forget his words throughout the songs.

I’ve been designated ‘Official Band Photographer’, so wherever they go, I go!

Other than that, I’ve been mostly not working - due to more Royal Mail strikes. I won’t moan, as the strike next week will give me time to see the Simpsons Movie, so it’s not all bad. ;)

Madd?

I went all poncey and was out for half of yesterday doing a photo-shoot!

I was asked to take pictures for a mates band. Alex, Ralf and Andy are Unused Subs, and they wanted a few pictures in and around their practice rooms in Carlton. I even managed to get a video on my N93.

I managed to get some decent shots, most of ‘em when they were playing, it was a shame that the good idea of posing in front of a sign that says M.A.D.D didn’t quite work when the photo was took.

These guys are playing the Rose of England pub on Mansfield Road this coming Thursday, so I’ll be taking more shots of them. I also brought up the idea of us going ‘on location’ around Nottingham and finding decent areas to shoot some posed pictures.

Later on in the day, I ended up at the Manvers Arms pub quiz. I’d not drunk alcohol for a few months now and the combined 7 pints i’d had throughout the day began to take their toll when I got home. :D

Humorous title unavailable

I’ve been back at work these past few days after half a week off. It’s the last break from work I get before my week off in August, so I was dertimend to enjoy it! I went to Manchester on Saturday, buying some clothes and looking around the huge expanse they call a city!

Went into town today to blow a bit more cash. I’ve done my sums, put aside cash for Bournemouth and assorted bills, and had about £100 left. I bought two DS games, as my mind has been on other things recently and the poor little blue bugger has seen little action of late. I’d decided to get a new Wifi game, as Mario Kart remains the only online DS game I have.

I bought Metroid Prime Hunters and Wario:Master of Disguise. The Metroid game is the online one, and online play was the first thing I did when I turned it on - big mistake though. I had memories of playing Halo 2 and being utterly hopeless, as I hadn’t a clue what I was meant to be doing. Halo 2 and it’s players pissed me off, which ended up in me never bothering playing it again, and i’m determined not let this happen with MPH.

It’s a good looking game considering what console it’s on, well worth the £18 I got it for. The Wario game is also good, though the ongoing use of the stylus for the majority of the game could hamper any enjoyment. But again, £20 is quite a snip for these games.

Die Hard Fanatic!

I’ve just come back from the cinema, Die Hard 4 was brilliant!

It’s a very modern film, with cyber-terrorism being the enemy here. The film gives you the feeling that without control of electricity - we’re fucked. This film is different from the others, in that it’s been a long time since we last saw McLane and he’s very much an old-school cop in the hi-tech modern age. The bad guys think that they’ve got enough about them to fuck up McLane but one thing you do is never underestimate him! And yes, he says “Yipee Kai-Yay Motherfucker!” 8)

Bruce Willis is certainly believable as the hero, despite him being a bit old nowadays. There’s word that he’d be up for a Die Hard 5 - here’s hoping that happens!

In other, more annoying, news - I’m currently quite pissed off with Arriva. I’m going to Bournemouth for a few days in August, and I had to go to the trouble of booking the trains down to Bournemouth and paying the excess, as it’s two separate train companies I travel with.

The government announced the other day that Arriva trains are due to take over running of a new Cross Country train network - one of the new services they’re bringing in is a Nottingham-Bournemouth direct service! Rather than have to fuck about crossing London, from November I’ll be able to travel in comfort all the way down there. Plus with it being the same train company, the price would cheaper too! Fucking hell. :(

I suppose it’ll come in handy in future, should I wish to go to the south coast again, but it’s sods law that it should happen! :D

Didi Dummy

Didier Agathe turns down the opportunity to play some football.

Colin Calderwood tells us that he hadn’t turned up to the training camp the reds are currently at in Austria, meaning any interest in him has now ended. You get the feeling he suffered from Alan Rogers syndrome. Rogers was offered a trial at Stoke City while at Forest but didn’t bother going, he felt that a player of his stature ‘didn’t need to have a trial at club like Stoke’. If Agathe has that attitude then he’s best left alone.

Neil Lennon must be fuming though. He recommended Agathe to Calderwood, he didn’t have to, and Agathe repays him like this. We’ll probably sign Kelvin Wilson when the team gets back to this country.

Also at NFFC, concern was shown as to why James Perch was still in Nottingham while the rest of the squad was in Austria. Rumours abounded that he was soon to be sold, but the truth is he’s recently become a daddy!
