NineteenEightyThree

I saw the crescent!

I’ve spent the last few days getting up to speed with Heroes.

I watched the first half dozen episodes back when they were broadcast a few years back. Sadly, the fact that the programme was on at odd times – as was the repeat – meant that despite wanting to watch the programme, i just couldn’t fit in anywhere. This, of course, was before the days of the iPlayer.

So i gave up, always with the intention of going back to it one day. Iain had got me the season one boxset from China (totally dodgy of course) and about three weeks ago i began watching it again from the very start. Of course, one thing led to another and i’ve watched both the second and third series. I’ve loved it, i can’t believe i gave up on this programme! It’s been a pleasure to get to know it again, and i can’t for the life of me see what the criticisms of the programme are. Season 2 was too boring apparently, and Season 3 was too fantastical! I just think it’s a brilliant programme, one that i could watch again and again. And with the 2nd and 3rd seasons loaded onto my old 80gb iPod, i can watch them anywhere!!

So, eagerly anticipating the fourth season to start (or, should i say, Season 3: Volume 4), with the bonus of iPlayer meaning i can watch anywhere and anywhen. Now for the next american tv series to take over my life…. Next on the list is Lost.

It’s not the size that counts…

So, i bought the Mac yesterday then.

It’s been on my mind for a while, and yesterday I seized the chance. I was in Leicester, home of the nearest Apple store to where I live, so I just went in there and bought the Mini. I’ve got a keyboard, monitor and mouse/tablet, but even so i still bought a new Mac keyboard. For some reason P/S2 to USB connectors are really hard to find. And the Mac keyboard goes so well with the Mini!

It was incredibly easy to set up, and so very quiet! No noise whatsoever when the computer is on - I’m just not used to silence. I did manage to fuck it up though, managing to reinstall the OS when i didn’t need too. Took a few hours. Oops!

Happy that i’ve made the leap now, and unconcerned about the lack of hard drive space. £55 for a 500gb external hard drive should sort that problem out. As for now, i’m just going to be spending the next few days fiddling. Getting used to a completely new operating system, which to be honest isn’t drastically different from Windows.

More about my Mac is no doubt to come…!

Mac Daddy

Made the quantum leap! Now a macwanker!

More tommorow. Right now i’ve had enough. Spent all evening getting everything installed, redoing my iPhone library… I’m knackered. But even so, what a machine! :)

Snow Is The Time

London gets snowed under and newspapers stop the press, give 2 or 3 pages over to poor Londoners and their travel problems. The snow returns a few days later, this time hitting the East Midlands particularly hard and all we get is the odd page or so about how it’s affecting us.

It’s a bit annoying, but i can’t blame the newspapers for being London biased, what with almost all of them being published down there. The Evening Post made up for it yesterday, reporting on how Nottingham almost ground to a halt. Bus services were suspended, airports closed, before we saw sense and got things running again.

There were plenty of people off work. Half of the shops in the city were closed, as were the offices and other businesses. This of course had a knock on effect for me. Nothing open means no mail to sort. We finished considerably early last night, with mail from Grantham, Mansfield and Sleaford not even making it in!

This means we’ll have our work cut out today. An almighty amount of mail to sort. Nothing that i can’t handle though, this is my last weekday before my week off next week, and indeed my birthday on Sunday!

Snow quickly got slushy yesterday, and no doubt the icy grey mess will linger a few days longer, but never fear! I took a few pictures at around 9am yesterday morning, when the snow was freshly laid on the ground…

Snow Way!

It rarely snows with any conviction around here. When the news is reporting heavy snowfall, we get a few flakes and that’s it.

We got a little more than that today. Still not enough to leave me snowed in and unable to get to work, but enough to make snowballs!

Took a few pictures of our street before it started its slow melt. Soon enough we’ll have the sludge, which will freeze tonight and we’ll be cursing the snow for the rest of the week.

But for now, rest assured that it always snows in February and usually around my birthday too (six days away!).

And to finish, a message left by the good people of Nottingham on the Old Market Square last night…
