Steppin’ Out
Just a quick blog, I’m off on my short break to Jersey tommorow. Looking forward to going somewhere on a plane, but is in the UK, but isn’t technically…as weird as that sounds.
It’s come at an odd time of the month, as I went for a job interview at my sisters workplace last week. She works in an office, so it’ll be doing what she does. I’ve been so focused on the interview that I haven’t even thought of the holiday. Well, until this weekend that is!
I should know wether I have a new job come the end of next week, so it’ll be something good to come home to. In the meantime, I’ll just hope that this hotel has free wifi. The lack of Internet AND a telly at that hotel in Malta was horrible. I have been promised free wifi and selected sky channels – so there will be uproar if they aren’t there.
Spent this afternoon watching a cricket match at Trent Bridge. Notts took on Somerset in a Pro 40 game. It got rained off in the end, but I saw some fine cricket by Notts – despite having to rely on my dad to tell me what was happening at various points throughout the game!
Hot Hot!
It’s hot and sunny, it can’t be England – that’s right, I’m blogging from Malta!
It’s a few days into my holiday and I’m loving it so far. It is very warm here, certainly more than the low twenties which the weather predicted. I’m sat in a McDonalds in the Coastal resort of Sliema. It’s one of the few places you’re certain to get free Internet. So, with my fanta and fries, here I am!
I’d got to now (half eleven, Thursday morning) without knowing the England result, thank christ for free wifi!
Sliema is better than Valletta. More tourist orientated. Plus there seems to be quite a lot of English shops here, and alongside them are rather dodgy ‘english’ pubs! There is also an Elvis tribute bar in the next town which I may have to visit!
Right now I’m about to leave the air conditioned pleasantness of McDonalds for the hot, hot streets of Sliema. Whoever said ‘it’s a different kind of heat to the UK, it’s not humid’ wants shooting, it’s EXACTLY the same!
Airplane
Here I am, in the deserted check-in hall at East Midlands. I don’t fly until 6, but being here now takes away any chance of lateness or missing the plane.
Most of the shops are closed, but seeing as the only one other than a sandwich bar is an ‘aviation gift centre’, I think I’ll be ok. I’ve spent the last hour lounging around a cafe, drinking an Americano to keep me awake.
Most of today I’ve been a bag of nerves, much to my annoyance. I haven’t a clue what I’m nervous about, I loved the plane trip to France two years ago! Thankfully, the nerves dissapeared around tea, and even more so as I entered the airport. Maybe that’s just the tiredness?
Just two hours before I’m through to the departure lounge, which hopefully has a bit more life to it than this check-in hall!
I’m really hoping there is some free wifi going on at the hotel in Malta, or maybe in the towns or cities, so I can continue posting on the blog! If not, then this is probably the last you’ll hear from me for a week (unless I get bored and blog later). I’ve heard horror stories about mobile phone Internet charges…
Countdown!
I’m now just counting down the days until I go to Malta. It can’t come soon enough! The lack of any decent summer is one reason to look forward to the break, it’ll rain a bit over there, but the majority of the time the sun will be beating down.
Another thing to look forward to is the flight. I’ve not got any of the jitters I had when I went to France, first time flyer and all that, this time I just want to get on the plane. I got the tickets a week ago and it’s made it all the more real. I’ve picking up travel stuff here and there (I got sun lotion yesterday!) and pretty soon I’ll be buying the €uros in!
Aside from the holiday, one thing of note happened to me a week or so ago. My bedroom door fell on my hand. It was every bit as painful as it sounds! The door had become loose, so I unscrewed it and propped it up, which worked okay for a while. Stupidly, one day I didn’t prop it up right and the door smashed down on my hand. I couldn’t move it for a minute, and even now it feels all odd when I touch the area it hit. Apparently it caused nerve damage, inflaming it and making it feel all tingly. I hope it isn’t permanent.
Iain & Aleks came back on Sunday from Bulgaria. They’re moving to Colindale in North London tommorow. This of course means plenty of trips to the capital, and with Colindale being close to Wembley, maybe even a trip there?
Merry Christmas!
Well, no sooner has the new school term started, three days into September, I’ve managed to spot the first piece of Christmas crap for sale.
Working my way through Primark I could see numerous Santa’s propped up near the escalators. Primark weren’t advertising them, but barely into September and shops deem it acceptable to sell Christmas goods!!
The changing of the month – and season, apparently – has also annoyed me as I walk through Nottingham. I thought I might go and buy some items I’ll need when I go to Malta. Things such as a sunhat, sandals and maybe even some new sunglasses. It soon became evident that most shops are now stocking autumn/winter stuff, I’ve left it too late! Superdrug are still selling suncream though, so all is not lost.
I’m currently sitting in the Espresso bar of John Lewis, drinking an Americano and generally being fancy. Watching all the envious eyes look at me as I tap away on my iPhone.
